London Area News

We are delighted that the London area web-site was runner up in the NADFAS media awards.

Nadfas award winner

We are continuing to have lots of visitors to the site, so please continue to spread the word among members.

Other news... the Royal School of Needlework is supported by the London area, jointly with national Nadfas... The course is the only one of its kind; students work on many techniques throughout their 2 years. They have fascinating premises in Hampton Court and at the end of the first year course held their prize-giving and  displayed some of their gorgeous work.

This prize winner, Anja Fenske, hopes to work in Theatre costume someday---we will watch her progress with interest, and wish her well. Other students may go into conservation or teaching other students.

We, jointly with NADFAS, have sponsored a post graduate student on the Courtauld Conservation course; only five people a year are taken on this prestigious programme, learning all aspects of materials and construction of paintings.

Again with NADFAS, we supported a framing conservation intern at Tate Modern.

For the eleventh year we gave a grant to a post graduate student at the Royal College of Art; the previous recipients have all gone on to make their way successfully in the art world.

We also supported for the second year Action Space and their workshops for disadvantaged adults as part of the Olympic open weekend; and continued to give prizes to young offenders’ art through the Koestler Trust.

Conservation projects included Manor Park Farm’s Textiles, and Gunnersbury Park Museum for costume storage and the training of volunteers. We supported Wimbledon volunteers at Southside House.
